I haven’t had a tattoo in years, however it's always been in the back of my mind to get another one. It took me ages to find the correct artist and think of a design I actually wanted but then a week before my booking a friend said to me “Does that artist use vegan ink?”.
I know what you're thinking... how is tattooing ink not vegan? Well I was astonished when i found out that even getting a tattoo could mean using animals products. so brace yourself here’s what’s actually in none-vegan ink.
According to Peta, "non-vegan tattoo inks can contain anything from bone char, used to increase pigment to glycerin from animal fat and hooves, or even insect parts. And for the most part, unless explicitly stated, it should be assumed that tattoo ink is not vegan“
So... next time your looking to book a tattoo make sure to ask your artist if the ink is vegan friendly and cruelty free, I mean who wants animal bone char in their bodies?
Side note: For my lovely tattoo of a bee, as you can see below, I went to the amazing Alban Tattoo Company based in St. Albans, Hertfordshire. Check out their work here: https://www.instagram.com/albantattoocompany/?hl=en
